My Story

Meet TUGBOAT! (Formally Louise) Tug is a 75#, 9-year-old (DOB 08/31/2014), German Shepherd Dog/Chocolate Lab mixed girl who is most devoted to her people! Her beautiful Tri-brown coat is movie star perfect! ***GSD EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. COUNTRY HOME ONLY. TUG'S DIET IS WELLNESS DEBONED CHICKEN & OATMEAL. DAILY SHE IS ON FORTA FLORA PROBIOTIC AND FLUEXOTINE MEDICATION*** Tug is an amazing dog who is very particular about her environment. She is looking for a calm, country lifestyle where it is quiet and peaceful. She would do best in an all adult home, where she can be the Queen Bee only pet. Due to her level of anxiety on walks, it would be best for her to have a secure fenced yard where she can roam and relax at her leisure. Attached are notes from her Owner/Foster which describes her best. ***NOTES FROM OWNER/FOSTER*** Tugboat! Tug is a beloved member of the family. She is cuddly and devoted and likes nothing better than to snuggle on the couch. She loves everyone in the family and all visitors invited into the home. She will lean on you and accept endless amount of petting. She can get excited and occasionally jumps on people when they come home, but will back off with a firm no. She likes learning tricks and knows sit, down, spin, under and shake. Her favorite toys tend to be chew toys, but she is quite possessive of them with other animals, and somewhat with people, so we only give her Kongs or other treat dispensing toys when she is crated or in her own space. She accepts being crated without complaint. She has a favorite joke. Even when she is very anxious to go outside to potty, she will quickly roll over and wag her tail happily and get a belly rub before leaving. She is very reliably house trained. She likes to sleep by the side of the bed at night and immediately went and got up on the couch when she came home for the first time. She has not been allowed on the bed due to her possessive tendencies. She is anxious about going outside and scans the street for problems when she leaves the front door. She is very strong, and we walk her with a harness. She dislikes delivery trucks and motorcycles and barks very loudly and angry at delivery people and the mail truck. She is not particularly bothered by garbage trucks. She gets very agitated on seeing dogs, cats, rabbits, even if they are far away when she senses them. She will rear up on her back legs and pull and moan. This behavior started two months after we got her when she felt at home with us. She does not act this way when boarded but would get upset at the pet store on seeing other dogs. She has always been very nice to kids at our house and gets belly rubs and is very affectionate. However, she is so anxious outside that she probably can’t be trusted not to be scary if she gets angry. Many kids have petted her outside over the years, but she usually ignores people outside. She lives with a cat or two at any given time but has not bonded to them and will growl if they are in her space. She gets along okay with our rough collie but does not seek him out. The cats were in the home first, and we got the collie as a puppy so that Tug could get used to him. We use a lot of gates for management. Tug is not afraid of loud sounds and does not have separation anxiety and rests politely till you come home. She is not destructive. We have not taken her swimming, She likes all fruits and vegetables as treats and likes cheese as a special treat and easily takes medications from pill pockets. She eats very fast! Tug is the perfect dog indoors. I wish it had been safe to keep her in our neighborhood and my heart is broken. Secure fenced yard is required to keep her safe and happy.
