Calling all hound lovers! Our names are Gordon and Tommy, and we are two super handsome hound mixes. We joined Young at Heart all the way from Florida after our elderly guardian passed away. We have come a long way in so many other ways since being rescued. Growing up, it was just our human, our dog mom, and our littermates making up our whole world. We didn't need to learn to go potty anywhere in particular, and we didn't meet a lot of outsiders. So when our human passed away, and we were whisked away from everything we knew and loved, our whole world shifted. We came to Young at Heart, (our siblings went to other rescues in the midwest) and since our arrival, we have learned so much about everything! It is clear that we love people, even though we are shy at first. We can't help it! But we want to make so many friends, and we're getting better and better at it. We aren’t too sure about men in particular, so we’d likely need a little more adjustment time with one in our home. You could win us over with treats, though! We are VERY treat-motivated!
Once we can easily recognize your friendly face and scents, we are the sweetest and most loyal boys. Gordon is a healthy young man, and Tommy had an ear mass removed that will now just require monitoring. We sit obediently, always at attention while the staff prepares our meals, and we learn routines well. Like so many other siblings before us, we argue every now and then. Siblings, right? Being hounds, we allow our noses to be our guide as we happily run around and explore our yard. And yes, we do have semi-hound voices, so a home where we don't share walls is best for us. Now, we will never pass a field test if an officer asks us to walk in a straight line on a leash. We will fail every time! But aside from that, we are amazing walkers and enjoy our daily strolls! We have made amazing strides with our housetraining, and will make even more strides once we have a house all to ourselves. We are really good about wearing belly bands while we get used to a new place until we understand that we pee outside in this new place, too. We always poop outside though!
We are easily overwhelmed by new dogs, but can live harmoniously with ones that are good-natured and playful once we have a few days to adjust. So while a home with just the two of us would be ideal, we wouldn't mind a happy-go-lucky canine buddy about our size either. But, no kitties for us. They're a bit too much fun to chase! We can’t wait for the day we get to scamper into our own backyard, soaking up the sun and the love from our very own family. We just need a special someone with a patient heart and a love of silly hound boys like us!
Are you the person we've been waiting to give us a chance so we can love you with our whole hearts? We hope so!
