My Story

Tin ACCT-A-169957 is an approximately 4-year-old female who came in as a stray with border collie Rin (since adopted) on 7/25. She was described by her finder simply as "friendly - a label she's lived up to during her time in-shelter! Behavioral notes: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION (7/26): KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Tin was sitting on his bed near the door when I approached. He watch dme with neutral eyes and body, and sniffed curiously through the bars. He put his head right through my loop when I reached in, and came right out once secured. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: Tin was a little anxious and paced the room sniffing around for the first several minutes. He ignored the treats I offered at first and just wanted to pace. After a few minutes he ate a treat that I dropped off the floor and realized he really liked them, and was more open to treats after this. Tin kept running back and forth between me and the door, seeking escape and treats. He started getting bouncy and seemed to want to play, so I grabbed a tennis ball and he chased it and mouthed at it, but did not take possession. A staff member walked in the room and Tin alert barked at him and stiffened up. He approached the stranger with some sniffs, and once he got a smell he disengaged and was nonreactive. Another staff member walked in and he gave one alert bark, sniffed her as well, and disengaged. He took a special interest in the female ACA that came in, and obsessively jumped on her and tried to push between her legs. He would not allow the female ACA to leash him, as he kept jumping up and hitting the leash with his paws. He allowed the male ACA to leash him easily, and did not give the male the same trouble he gave the female. He did not give me this response in kennel, so it may be that he was too stressed at that time, or he may be sexually motivated and was being a little obnoxious. Either way, he was tolerant, even under stress, and left with the ACAs calmly to go get checked in. PLAY: Jumpy and bouncy, didn't mouth me but did mouth at the leash. Not true leash biting, but tried to play with the leash. TOYS: Likes tennis balls and chased them but did not take possession Medical notes: During an intake exam on 7/26, staff found Tin in good general health besides some waxy ears, moderate dental tartar, and fleas.
