My Story

We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Thor, 5 year old, neutered male, boxer, 30lbs. Thor is currently in Burlington, Washington. He was previously adopted and transported from Texas. He is being returned due to another dog coming into the home and not getting along. What we know about his backstory: Thor was once - and is still very much - loved by his owner. He and his two siblings were a pack and well cared for until the owner experienced a mental health crisis and the family had to surrender the dogs to the local shelter, as he was/would be unable to take them back. The employees and volunteers at the shelter fell in love with the three dogs and spirited them away in their office to avoid them landing on the euthanasia list. Thankfully Thor and his siblings, Hollie and Monte, have all been saved by rescue. Thor, “aka Thorski”, is an opportunist with an appetite for snacks and naps. Thor is 30lbs of couch potato just waiting for you to sit down so he can sit in your lap while he dozes off into puppy dream land. Thor has the best wrestling skills I’ve ever come across; I practically have to sparta him off my lap. Did I forget to mention Thor has selective hearing and uses it to his advantage? He enjoys being asked more than 3 times to do anything, especially getting off the couch, he needs a tug every now and then to be removed. If in my lap and one of my dogs approach, he will try to claim his spot and let out a growl as do my dogs or any dog would do. To correct this behavior, I remove him from my lap and make him lay on his doggy bed. He is persistent and will attempt many times after to jump back on my lap but eventually gets the hint and goes to lay down. Thor is very dog friendly with small and large dog and when he resided in a foster home in Texas he did well in my mixed pack of 5 (3 chihuahuas and 2 large pittie/mixed breeds). Thor is very low key, doesn’t really play with other dogs but gets excited with them and romps around. In fact, he is so dog/people friendly he believes the sign of acceptance is right at the door with humping your leg. We have worked on this, but still needs some redirection. In the current home, they have found that he has been protective of things like his dog bed and some toys when the other dog comes to visit. We think it's been hard for Thor to adjust to change especially with the other dog coming over once or twice a week. Thor does not need to be crated, as he is trusted loose in the house for short periods of time. If he goes more than 4-5hrs between potty breaks he may have an accident and he is an aficionado of counter surfing, so ensuring doors are shut and food is put away but he has not destroyed anything in the house. When disciplined for counter surfing, he thinks it’s fun to talk back. He wants people food and has to be told no, he will whine and talk smack but eventually goes away. Thor's ideal home would be an apartment or condo would be more than sufficient due to his couch potato vibe. He would love a home with someone home most the day, an owner that will take him on walks and let him sleep on the bed with them at night. A home with older kids is perfect - he has met and been around teenagers (13-15yo) with success and we believe he could do well with even younger kids due to his chill nature. Overall a home that will love and care for his sweet soul. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
