My Story

Adopted!

Teddy - baby (born 6/17/05) - male -3 months- long, fluffy tan and black coat

Teddy is as roly-poly as a little bear cub, with a coat so soft and puffy that you want to cradle him all the time. As obliging as he can be in that respect, Teddy's eyes look directly and earnestly up at his caregivers with an expression of absolute love and trust - and even more endearing - complete approval. He is expectant, responsive, and ardently affectionate.

Teddy loves to be stroked and cuddled, and rolls over contentedly for belly rubs. He will stretch his front paws up in the air to ask to be picked up, and he is delighted to be held up on his foster mom's shoulder like a baby. He has not given her an adequate greeting until he has covered his foster mom's face with kisses.

As round as he is tall, and filled with curiousity, Teddy trots about on overly large feet, regarding the world around him with pleased wonderment. He is quite bright, and capable of great focus as he ponders life's important questions, like how to remove the lid from the kibble container, or how to squeeze his fat tummy through the baby gate.

His capacity to focus, combined with excellent reasoning skills have given Teddy a strong basis for learning, and he is happily realizing (through positive training) that his small accomplishments are always rewarded; he strives eagerly to learn basic cues like "sit", "let's go", "come", and "potty". Of course, Teddy is still a baby, but his trusting nature, desire to please, and love of treats will make him a joy to train throughout his life.

Teddy is a marvelous combination of qualities; he is playful and affectionate - a real "people puppy" - with a true and touching dignity that is already emerging. He has been beautifully socialized in foster care; he has confidence and faith in adults, children, and other dogs. His typical response to anyone or anything new is one of excitement and delight, and a tail that begins to wag so hard that his whole body is engaged by the movement.

Teddy is an inordinately happy little guy, whose eye on the world is open, and informed by love. His life has been filled thus far with the everyday joys of being Teddy - the feel of a good Nylabone in his baby teeth, the security of a loving lap, the feel of cool air through the air conditioning vent after a vigorous romp in the sun, and the sound of admiring voices calling his name.

We cannot imagine a more excellent pastime than sharing the world through Teddy's eyes.
