My Story

Sydney is a drop-dead gorgeous, gentle Black Lab boy who weighs 79.9 lbs. and is estimated at 3 years of age. With his long legs, this slender boy stands 25 inches tall at the shoulder. Sydney languished in an Appalachian, WV kill shelter for nearly 3 weeks before being rescued by his foster mom. The shelter workers were all in love with this gentle, sweet stray boy and couldn't understand why no one had reclaimed or adopted him and kept him way beyond his mandated euthanasia date (skipping over him and killing other dogs as overcrowding occurred). He got along great with every "roommate" he had at the shelter and plays with all willing dogs in his foster home--preferring always to play the "victim". Though Syd plays very gently with even the rough-housing dogs (typically the smaller pupsters) in his foster home, his foster mom believes the reason he consistently prefers the roll-over-on-the-back victim role is that he has suffered injury to his right hind leg in the past. Although X-ray showed that it is already calcifying, it has not yet completely healed and is still somewhat sensitive. The vet prescribed a month of Deramaxx to ease the pain while he continues to heal (he very gently takes the peanut butter and pill off his foster mom's finger in his mouth). The vet said to keep him confined meanwhile, but Syd decided for himself to stay off his feet as much as possible. Syd would be fine in a couch potato home as he is very calm and laid back himself. He just ignores the household cats as though they are invisible beings, and he has not had any bathroom incidents in his foster home. Syd has been vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm tested (negative, thank goodness and obviously not attributable to his former owners who not only let him roam in traffic but never reclaimed him from the pound). He is now on monthly preventative so that he will remain heartworm free. His adoption fee to defray rescue expenses is $110.
