Sugar

This is one pathetic story and sadly, it's the truth. I was at the Downey shelter, bailing out a few dogs when I saw a man and his son pull up in a pick up truck and unload a very pretty, fluffy, petite, lactating MOM. I walked over to ask if they were dumping her, they said 'yes, the landlord doesn't want us to have a dog'. I asked where the puppies were and was told they were at their home and were only a month old. I informed this brain surgeon that the pups still needed their MOM and he said he would bottle-feed them. I let him know what a hassle that would be and that mother's milk is the best. They also need their MOM to teach them manners. He thought about it and then agreed to let me take the puppies. He said she had 4 but he would let me have 2 since he wanted to keep 2. I was shocked; here he is dumping Sugar but wants to keep to pups.....I was about to have a heartattack! I said 'what about your landlord? Puppies grow up, you know??' He then agreed to give me all 4. I told him I would finish my adoptions and follow him home. Next thing I know, he ties the MOM to the railing of the shelter and drives off. Luckily, he had given me his cell phone number earlier. I called him and made arrangements to get the pups from him that evening. I drove out to South Central LA and picked up the pups. They were in a filthy dog house with no water and there was a chain attached to the dog house where the MOM had been tied up. I took the pups home and reunited them with their MOM. When the pups were old enough, they were all adopted but the MOM remains. Sugar weighs about 30 lbs and is a year old. She is a great dog and has been through so much already. She is so happy now and plays with the other dogs. She loves to give kisses and sleeps with her foster mom. She had never been allowed inside in her previous home so she is really grateful for all the luxuries she has now. She has such good house-manners and is house-broken.
