My Story

There's many things that probably caught your eye about Stormii: her dazzling smile, her perky ears, or her loving eyes that look deep into your soul. Well that's just the beginning with our girl Stormii! She's a gentle soul who really enjoys human quality time. She's not very energetic but enjoys the occassional zoom of energy. Stormii was brought to the shelter when her owner was moving and decided not to bring her along. She is now available for adoption- you can meet her any day from 10am-6pm. She's had good dog meets in our shelter! She was super gentle taking treats from me! Very low energy the whole time we were out in the play yard and gentle overall. Not interested in toys. Her kennel has a sign that she leash bites but it only happened for maybe 10 seconds with me and was incredibly gentle- she was holding my 2nd leash but not biting it very hard and not moving closer to my hand so not sure that I would even categorize it as leash biting. She was super easy for me to handle. Got into the pool and enjoyed the water, sweet gal! Had a nice meet with adoptable Storm! Laid back and not overly interested Per Staff 8/2/24 Stormii got out for some activity time today! In kennel she greeted with soft eyes and a wagging tail. She pawed at the door excitedly. I was able to leash her easily and she came right out once secured. She didn't pull too much walking through the kennels, but she was slipping and sliding on the wet floor. When we got to the room she pawed at a toy but decided to sniff around the room first. I tried to give her a gentle back pet, but she froze and gave some hard eyes, so I backed off and gave her some time to adjust. She went potty and knocked a ball around, getting herself excited, but she lost interest quickly and came up to me to sniff me. I offered her a treat, but she spit it right out. After a couple tries, she decided she liked them, and took treats from me gently. I tried again to give her some pets, and she head whipped around on me. Another staff member came in and Stormii greeted them with a neutral body and tail. She began leash biting since I was holding her leash, and thrashed back and forth violently. She can sure shake! She jumped for the leash multiple times and was very fixated. When I dropped the leash, she would carry it around in her mouth and trot around the room. When she was leash biting she was pretty good about not getting my hand in her mouth, but she was pretty fixated and it took convincing to get her to redirect onto something else. We were able to get her to trade the leash for a toy, and she seemed to really like tug-o-war play. The other staff member stepped out and I sat down to type, and Stormii laid down, panting and calming herself down. After a few minutes she was no longer panting, and laid there calmly. At this point she allowed some pets and handling, and allowed me to give her some head pets. She allowed all over handling and leaned in for pets! I wanted to make sure she could deescalate herself, so I got her playing again with some toys. She was tired form our first round, but got into it after a couple throws. She did not mouth me or jump on me, and when I stopped playing so did she. She seemed to be pretty good at redirecting herself onto toys or even the leash. When it was time to return I brought a tug toy with us in case she began leash biting again. As soon as I picked up the leash to try and clip her, she went after the leash. This time it was more focused on my hand and was much closer to my hand. I was able to get her to redirect onto a tug toy really easily this time, and she lost interest int he leash by the time we entered the kennels. She returned to kennel without issue and got a big drink of water. Per Staff 7/31/24: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Owner Surrender KENNEL PRESENTATION: When approaching Stormii in kennel she was wagging at the front with soft wide eyes and had a neutral body and high wags. She was easy to leash and exited her kennel without issue. No issues returning LEASH SKILLS: Pulled moderately, Leash bites when aroused HANDLING: In the room Stormii was friendly towards me and another handler and greeted us with loose body language and tail wags. She allowed all handling including her belly but at times would become over aroused and mouthy, doing firm snaps at my hands. She would calm down with treats or when I would disengage though. She allowed handling from both of us in the room and when two other handlers entered the room she greeted them with wiggly body language as well. PLAY: Engaged in play, very energetic. Stormii was very aroused with play and would jump up, leash bite, mouth, and could be hard to calm down at times. A couple times she would try to grab a toy to occupy her mouth but continue to jump at me and do some play growls. Due to her arousal she should go to an adult only home that can manage her behavior as it could escalate if someone continues to engage or amp her up once shes already overstimulated TOYS: Engaged in play with toys but could be possessive of them. She did not outright guard but would tense slightly, raise her hackles, play keep away and could be very snatchy at times. Per Staff 7/29/24: Did a meet. Very sweet and very playful. Did jump for pets and to play. Loved to play with squeaky toys. Did get overaroused towards the end and started mouthing and leash biting but was easily redirected. Per Staff 7/29/24: Did a meet with potential adopters, easily leashed getting out of kennel ,had an immediate burst of energy but walked ok on the leash. She seems very friendly and solicits attention but is a bit jumpy. She growls when you reach for a toy in her mouth. Returned to kennel with minimal issue. She did leash bite half the way back to the kennel. Seems like a sweet girl but may do better with older kids due to high energy and mouthy, jumpy tendencies.
