Stonewall:Adoption

Talk about a looker! Stonewall is a purebred 4 year old St. Bernard that is MASSIVE! He was rescued by a good samaritan that couldn't keep him, so we stepped in to help. Although he has AKC papers, it didn't guarantee him a life of leisure. He was heartworm positive when he came to us and very under-weight. He has been treated for his heartworms and is recuperating and is gaining the much needed weight (now that he's neutered, it should help!). Stonewall is great with other dogs, but sometimes they aren't so sure about 135lb dog trying to play with them! He shows a lot of interest in small animals and cats . . .too much, so we are recommending he not be adopted to a home with cats, bunnys, and other small critters. (Update: Stonewall has formed a special bond with the older, low-key cat in his foster home - they'll even eat out of the same bowl. He will however chase a cat if it runs, only in fun, but it does scare the cats). He will sit, lay down, shake and roll over on command. He is also very gentle on a leash, staying right by your side. He did lift his leg the first time he entered his foster home, but only the one time (I think to mark his turf), since then he has had no accidents!! He is good with children, but due to his sheer size we recommend no toddlers (remember, he thinks he's a puppy). He also bonds very quickly (especially with women, but does love his foster dad) so he would need a home where he is exposed to lots of different people (dog parks, shopping centers, etc), so that he doesn't make one person the focus of his affection. And affection he has . . .he'll lay a big fat juicy kiss on you in a minute!! He is in a foster home where he loves the 7 year old girl and wants to play with all the dogs . . .a real puppy at heart! He goes right down in a submissive bow to dogs a quarter his size! And don't forget his toys!! Oh, and he LOVES car rides . . .nothing makes him happier than the wind flapping his big jowls around!
