My Story

Name: Stella Breed: Pom mix Weight: 11.4 pounds Gender: Female Spayed/neutered: Spayed Age: 15 months Obtained from: a rescue organization Reason for Intake: Stella is too active and energetic for her elderly owner. She needs more physical and mental stimulation than they can give her. Up to Date with Vetting: Yes. Good with dogs: Loves other dogs. Overly excited and eager to greet other dogs on walks. Once she calms down a bit greetings usually go well. Enjoys running and playing with other dogs at the dog park. Good with cats: Stella lives in the basement apartment and occasionally interacts with the current cat who wants nothing to do with her and hisses at her. Stella basically ignores the cat but isn't with them full-time. Good with kids: No experience with babies/toddlers. Has only met children while on walks but has been fine. Good with strangers: Yes. When a stranger comes to the door she does not bark. She eagerly goes up and greets people and wants attention. Resource guarding issues: She will grab things like socks, paper products, shoe laces, and empty poop bags and try to shred them. The owner doesn't have enough experience to work on "trading" and counterconditioning Ever bitten a human: Has grabbed the owner's had but not broken skin Ever bitten a dog: No Fears: Not comfortable with car rides Housetrained: yes Crate trained: Yes. She sleeps in her crate overnight with the door shut. During the day she will go in the crate with the door left open when they go out. Good in the car: No. She is afraid of car rides and shakes. Bark when left alone: No. She is not barking when they leave. They are typically gone 2-3 hours at a time. She is very happy to see them when they return. The crate door is usually left open. Sometimes she will also sleep on the couch. Destructive: She will shred/chew shoe laces, newspapers, cardboard boxes, etc. if she has access to them. She does not ingest the pieces. She needs a more engaging environment and not an older lady who is not active Energy Level: Medium to high Leash skills: She pulls on leash to chase squirrels and birds and greet people and dogs. Okay with physical handling/manipulations: is fine for bathing but doesn't like when they brush her. Would be best at a professional groomer Known commands: sit. She went to 2-3 puppy classes Food on now: Science Diet for small dogs, chicken flavour. Behavioural issues: Afraid of the car and uncomfortable with some handling like brushing and having her nails done. Guards treasures she steals like socks, paper products. Needs a more stimulating home, one with other dogs would be good. She loves other dogs Medical issues: had a root canal at 1 year old due to cross bite. She should not have hard things to chew. 7/26/24 1:33 PM
