My Story

Stanley ACCT-A-162267 is a 7 year old male who came to the shelter on 7/16 as a stray. A wise, mature, yet action-packed old soul, he can't wait to show off his exuberance and dynamism to his new forever (or foster) home! He walked through the kennels nicely. He peed once outside. He was eager to meet another dog upon seeing her. Stanley appropriately sniffed her then attempted to mount her. He was easily interrupted though he did repeatedly try to go up to her again with the intention to hump. He allowed all over petting and was very sweet with me. He walked back to the kennels nicely and hesitated going into his kennel. Handler needed to assist Stanley in returning to his kennel by lifting his rear end into the kennel. He did well with all over handling. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION (7/19): KNOWN HISTORY: -Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Stanley was lying on his bed in kennel asleep. When the handler called to him he ignored her and stayed asleep. It took a few minutes to wake him up and once awake it took him a moment to get up. He seemed a bit unsure and gave some lip licks but allowed the handler to leash him easily. He did trip when coming out of kennel. No issues exiting or returning. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: -In the room Stanley had a lot of pep in his step for a senior! He would trot around the room and wiggle around the room doing bunny hops, leaping in the air, playing and doing lots of toe taps. He was tolerant for all handling and engaged with us frequently but did not actively solicit pets. He wants to be near you and get praise but is indifferent to handling. He would bounce away from us when touching his paws but was not reactive. Took treats gently and tries with lots of effort to PLAY: Engaged in play but would get distracted easily TOYS: Interest but no possession
