My Story

Little Sprout has quite won us over! He was brought to the shelter when we were oh-so-full. The lady said he was a stray (he sure looked that way) that she had nowhere to keep him and that he was having trouble breathing. We squeezed him in because we did not want him in the cold pound if he was sick. It took us over 2 hrs to clip all the matted fur from his back. Then we had to remove the ticks and fleas. He was so good - you know that had to hurt! He was bathed, brushed and blow dried and all of a sudden- the cute little man in the picture was standing in front of us. Most of the clipping had to be done in the back so he still looks so cute from teh front.

Sprout is around 8 months of age! Young!! He weighs around 16lbs. He was brought to the shelter 12/5/09 and has won us all over. He tested Negative for heartworms! YAY! He was neutered 12/8/09 and while he was being examined had a reverse-sneezeing fit. This is something common in small breed dogs, and nothing to be concerned about. While he was anesthetised Dr. Dacus gave him a complete oral exam and found he had tonsilitis which was probably causing the reverse sneezing. He is now on antibiotics and should be well in about a week! Poor little Sprout - we wish dogs could tell us where they hurt!

Sprout is CRATE TRAINED -he will not mess in it. We are teaching him not to potty when he is out of his crate and hope neutering him will help with this. He may never have been an inside dog before. He walks very well on a leash, especially a little harness. He does not pull or tug and would be great for a child or elderly person to walk with. Sprout smiles all the time! He is so happy to meet everybody. His Little foofy tail is curled up over his back and wag-wag-wags! He does not mind being groomed (gently - please don't pull his hair) and is so good in the bathtub. He is good with other dogs as long as they are not aggressive toward him. He does not nip or bite and is not a barker (although we will reasses this after his tonsils get better!)

He is such an awesome GORGEOUS little guy. How did he end up running around with no one to take care of him, sick and cold and lonely? This little guy is a lap dog and a house dog. Please help us bring Sprout HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!
