My Story
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.
Meet SPARKY!
Sparky is a 13 year old gentleman who is a handsome mix of Pug & Jack Russell Terrier. He has a gorgeous coat, a bounce to his step and soulful eyes that love to gaze at you. He has a lot of love to give.
He is social with people, dogs & cats. He is untested with small children, so he is not recommended for families with children under 12. However, Sparky is really hoping to have a lot of attention, TLC and peace.
His previous family is no longer able to devote their time and love to him as they have had so many changes. As a
senior
gentleman, Sparky is searching for a devoted, loving human companion (or two) and possibly a gentle canine companion. He is a well-mannered, friendly, guy who loves to roam around the fenced yard, enjoy a comfy bed, and be loved.
Overall, he is healthy except for strict dietary needs. Due to a sensitive tummy, Sparky does well with his Science Diet feeding schedule. No treats or scraps for this guy. He is neutered, UTD and ready to go!
Coming into rescue at age 13 it can be sometimes difficult for dogs to acclimate, however,
Sparky adjusted well to the routine and meeting several other pets in his Foster Home. Sparky does pretty well walking up & down stairs, sometimes needing a little assistance getting down them. The Foster Home reports that h
e does not always hear you when approached from behind or when he is sleeping. His eyesight also may be waning a bit. Both as a normal sign of having many Birthdays!
Sparky will ask the people around him to respect his space and boundaries. He does not like to have quick motion near his face. Perhaps this was from a previous trauma in his past, or his diminished sight at close range, we just don't know. As he will be defensive to motion near his face, kissing his face is not acceptable. Sparky does love to have his head rubbed and patted, just not super close where he can be in control. He is a very friendly guy when meeting new people.
Sparky successfully does his business outside but needs his humans to listen when he signals to get him there. When Nature calls, Sparky responds, so having a Belly Band on hand may be recommended.
Sparky loves to be out and about, does well in a car and on the leash. He loves to walk and especially run, so a fenced in yard is preferred for him, but not a deal breaker if you don't have one. Just make sure he gets his steps in for the day!
Aside from making his humans the center of his world, food takes a close second. Respecting the space around his food bowl is important. No resource guarding other than this. If there are multiple pets in the home, please feed him separately.
Sparky seems more attached to his comfy bed than actual toys, and sleeps on his dog bed with no issues of destructiveness or separation anxiety have been seen.
Sparky will be a wonderful, loving companion for a family who will love & care for him. He has so much love & joy to share with the right family. Will you be the one?
