Sophia is a beautiful, graceful, affectionate Akbash/Pyr, percentage of Great Pyrenees blood unknown, but is primarily Akbash. She is tall, long bodied, agile, angular, athletic. Photos do not do her justice. Also non-alpha, quick to learn, eager to please. House training is underway, with 100% success rate. Not recommended for first time large dog owners, she is highly intelligent and can open most gates that are not doubly secured. Plays well with familiar mixed dog group, cats & kids too, w/proper introduction period recommended. We would like for her to have a neutered male companion & active, loving family. Learning to wear a collar, walk on leash, has learned to hop in & out of vehicle, doing well, loves to ride. Not a finished dog, but well on her way. Intense, highly intelligent, serious family guardian. Requires a new family who understands & appreciates the behavior/nature of this breed mix, with
focus being on the Akbash disposition in this particular dog. Companion home only. Above ground fencing with large yard/play area, 4 foot minimum prefer 5 or 6', veterinary reference, home visit and adoption contract required to adopt this beautiful girl.

We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes to learn how they will interact with your family. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks or more, spayed or neutered and fully vetted before placement.
NGPR will take back any dog who does not succeed in its new home. Many NGPR volunteers are members of the AKC breed club, adhere to their rescue guidelines for purebred Pyrs and apply these standards to the adoption of Pyr mixes as well.
