My Story

UPDATE 5/8/05 Snoopy has returned to his foster home after having his second heartworm treatment. He is pretty quiet today. I am sure it will take a few days for him to perk up. But I wanted everyone to know that he has had his second treatment. He will need to be retested in 30 days to see if he is still heartwom positive. UPDATE 4/18/05 Snoopy has started his heartworm treatment and is doing well. He does not want to be kept quiet even through the vet told him he had to stop going for walks. So he is getting a little ornery but he is still really cute. UPDATE 4/6/05 The growth on Snoopy's toe was cancer. The vet wanted a chest X-Ray to make sure it did not spread. That was done today and the chest is clear. Snoopy had a lump on his side. We had the vet look at that and said it was a fat cell and aspirated that. Snoopy's heart is a little enlarged but that could be the heartworms. So now we are free and clear to start the heartworm treatment. Snoopy is a great dog. UPDATE 3.20/05 - Snoopy must be feeling better because his personality is coming out. He loves car rides and when heading out for a walk ask to go in the car instead. He loves to go for a walk. Of course he is now marking everything in the neighborhood and is happy as could be. He gets excited when he thinks he is going out. He has not had any accidents in the house. He will go into a crate to lay down but is fine with given free rein in the house when I am gone. He tolerates the other dogs except the puppy that keeps jumping in his face. Then Snoopy will tell her what he thinks and walk away. He loves dog beds and people beds. UPDATE 3/17/05 - Snoopy had his toe amputated today. He, also, had his dental work done. Snoopy did not need to have any teeth extracted after the vets got into his mouth. But they did get cleaned. He is doing fine. He hates the boot we put on his bandages to keep them dry. But he is back in his foster home and doing well. After Easter we plan to schedule his heartworm treatment now that his toe and dental have been done. His eyes are looking so much better then when we first found him. Snoopy was acquired by an Operation CARE of NC volunteer and was in pitiful condition. After examining Snoopy his hair was so long, muddy and matted we could not see if he was hurt. His eyes were very cloudy . The eyes were pretty dirty on the outside as well. Snoopy would not eat at first. We took him to a vet just to make sure he had his shots and to check on eyes. Snoopy had conjunctivitis and was given medicine for that. He did eat the McDonald's hamburger on the way home from the vet's. Two days later we were able to get him to a groomer who had to shave him down completely. This revealed a handsome boy. But it also revealed a toe that looked strange and some hot spots. So now he was being treated for his hot spots. We got him to our regular vet to check on the toe and recheck his eyes. His toe needs to be amputated. His eyes do not produce tears so they are very dry. Now he needs eye drops for the dry eyes. Snoopy may also need to have some teeth pulled. What more could happen to this dog? Well, the next day we found out he is heart worm positive. So now he needs to be treated for heart worms. Snoopy is getting his toe amputated on March 17th. Two vets felt that needed to be done first. Then when he is stronger we will treat him for his heart worms. Snoopy already has several vet bills. He has an estimate of around $550 for his toe. Then he needs dental work and his heart worm treatment. In spite of all this Snoopy is a quiet and sweet dog. He loves people and car rides. He loves to lay on soft beds and to be on your lap. He so far has rarely barked. He gets along with other dogs and cats. He is looking for a great home that will take great care of him. I feel he would like to be an only dog or one of two dogs. He would want to go for car rides. He is great on a leash. If you could help to make a donation to his vet bills please send it to Operation Care of NC PO Box 3206 Matthews NC 28106 c/o Snoopy. Please put his name on the envelope and check so we can make sure he gets it. Thanks. Snoopy will be microchipped before he is adopted. You can contact [email protected] to get more information.
