My Story

10/5/10 Smokey went outside today. He was lounging and enjoying the sun. His foster mom called me sobbing because when she went to let him in, he has passed away. Her family was so attached to him because he was such a sweet dog and easy to love. I am glad he was with a family at the end of his life instead of being killed in a shelter. Smokey lived his last days with love and kindness. He didn't know this was a "foster" home. To Smokey, this was his real home. RIP sweet Smokey.

Smokey's owner could no longer keep him. She was going to take him to a kill shelter where due to his age, he wouldn't have a chance of making it out alive. So Waverly Pet Rescue stepped in and he is living in a foster home. He is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, housetrained, and neutered.

Smokey is about 12 years old. He is a sweet natured and friendly Miniature Poodle. He weighs about 11 pounds. Very shy and avoids other dogs. Just likes to be near you and cuddle. We are sure he is confused after losing his home. He needs some time to adjust. Would be best in a quiet home because he is an older fellow. We will be getting him groomed soon so will update pics afterwards.

7/28/10 UPDATE: Smokey was groomed! Pics #1 & #2 are after, and #3 is before!

8/4/10 UPDATE: Smokey is a great little dog. He loves to just go lay down and sleep on his pillow. Smokey is housetrained (does need let out every 4-6 hours though because of his age and size) and will whine when he has to go out. He likes to go outside and explore and then comes back to the door when he is ready to come in. Smokey likes kids and loves their attention. He gets along with the other dogs and he actually took over the big dog bed that my great danes use. He just laid in it one day and my danes never protested. He ignores the cats but he loves to try and eat people food! He is learning not to beg for the people food. Smokey is such a great little guy and has lots of love and companionship left to give!

8/31/10 UPDATE: I think Smokey is going blind/deaf. Sometimes it takes him awhile to hear me call for him and the tractor was right up next to him yesterday and he didn't move. My husband had to slam on the brakes because he went walking right in front of the tractor. Thats okay though, he is still just as sweet as can be and when he gets adopted I will probably cry.

Will someone please adopt Smokey and give him a true forever home? $25.00 adoption fee.
