Skye is 17 pounds of loving devotion that is packaged in a rather fierce first impression.
We do not know what has instructed little Skye to greet everyone she meets with her gloves on, but it is obvious that she has a huge capacity to bond lovingly with humans she can trust. A very beautiful Jack Russell with extra large ears and a long-ish back, Skye is very well muscled and proportioned.
Although she meets new acquaintances with growls and bared fangs, (and we are confident that with gentle and consistent socialization that we may soften her belligerent facade), it is clear that her behaviors are just that - a big facade in a little dog. She does not follow up her threats by action of any sort; Skye is definitely an "all bark and no bite" kind of dog. If she cannot convince newcomers to beat a retreat by her best efforts at acting scary, Skye's next strategy is to dodge behind her foster mom's petticoats, where she pretends to be very busy, but actually is hiding.
Otherwise, Skye is a very happy, gentle and enjoyable dog. Her house manners are excellent; she is perfectly house trained, comes when called, sits on command, and is extremely responsive and affectionate.
She is excellent with cats, and snuggles and cuddles with her foster mom and dad. She can play a lively game of fetch, and tosses about her toys with delight. Her eye contact is direct and extremely earnest, as if she is actually requesting that we look beyond her snarly exterior to see the kindly and affectionate dog within.
Because she gives such confusing signals to humans and dogs alike, and although she is navigating a foster home with other dogs quite well, Skye would still probably do best as an only dog in a home without children. She will be fine in a house with cats. For a lover of Jack Russells, and to the adopter(s) who can be content to have a wonderful dog whom the rest of the world will not get to see, Skye is a great choice.
