My Story

Simon has had quite a life so far! If he was a cat, he’d be on life #4! He was born on 5/13/05 in a kill shelter in Ohio. He made his was via rescue to Minnesota. That rescue had to get rid of their dogs due to complaints, so CARES took him and his 3 littermates. His 3 siblings have long since found loving homes. We found out at about 8 months of age that Simon was born with severe hip dysplasia. He has had surgery on his left rear hip and is doing quite well. His right hip is dislocated and is causing him no pain at this point, and is quite strong, so it is the opinion of 2 vets to do nothing with that hip until it is necessray. We have money set aside for surgery on the right hip, should he need that in the future. So, his adopter will not have to take on the financial burden of the surgery. But, his adopter does need to take on the responsibility of keeping him exercised daily, so that his muscles stay toned. He needs to be walked slowly at least one hour a day, so that he uses the leg that has had the surgery. He may never need that second surgery—it is an unknown, as is most medical issues with dogs, it seems.

Simon has a very endearing personality. Everyone who meets him just loves him. He has been through so much and he has taken it all in stride and has never lost his happy-go-lucky personality.

Simon loves other dogs, so having a playmate would be good for him to stay active. He is fine with cats. He is a little shy with men at first, but warms up quickly.

Simon plays fetch, plays with his dog buddies, and loves to chew on most everything. He will snuggle with you on the bed or just lay at your feet as you watch TV. Whatever floats your boat, he goes along for the ride.

He is housetrained and crate trained. In fact, he LOVES his crate. He will often be smushed in his crate, upside-down (we call that the Labrador Roll). He is such a goof! He is quite entertaining!

He is very well-mannered, knowing commands such as: SIT, DOWN, COME, WAIT, LEAVE IT, OFF, QUIET, KENNEL UP, CAR. He doesn’t run off if unleashed, he will stay be his person. What more could anyone ask for?

Simon is very special to a lot of people. Who will be the lucky, kind-hearted person to give this special boy the home that he deserves?
