My Story

Shrub was found with her two hound pals–Acorn and Redwood– running the HUA property one Sunday morning. These nutty hound dogs had a most wonderful time playing chase with the caregivers for over three hours. Shrub was the most difficult one to catch. She would approach us for treats but the leash terrified her and she would scramble away to hide. Once we secured Acorn and Redwood, the last of this trio decided to stay on the HUA property tucked into a bush, which is how this wily girl got her name. Caregivers have been working diligently with Shrub on her leash skills to show her that the leash means something good is happening. She loves loves loves other dogs so she is taking cues from them and gaining some confidence as well. With enough pupperonis, guidance from other dogs and positive experiences with volunteers and her caregivers, Shrub is in on her way to becoming a lovely family pet. Another pup in her home would greatly increase her sense of well-being and happiness. Visit Shrub at www.hua.org!
