My Story

Shorty is seeking an *ADULT ONLY HOME *in a RURAL AREA, *with ANOTHER CALM, GENTLE, FRIENDY DOG. *Experience with dogs who are fearful of human interaction IS A MUST! *Must have a fully fenced escape proof yard Shorty is a poodle mix. We are unsure what he's mixed with or maybe he's just a short legged poodle! He's around 2.5 years old and he was rescued from a back yard breeding situation with his friend Annie. Shorty is cute as a button, but is apprehensive of humans. He doesn't fully trust humans. He still runs away if you try to pet him. He has learned to take treats from our hands. And he hangs out with our dogs all the time. Shorty is a flight risk, and should only go to homes in quiet areas with a fully fenced, escape proof yard. (no high traffic areas please). He should not live with children, so please no children and no future children. He would LOVE to have other dogs in the home, because he just loves having doggie friends. OR he can be adopted together with his friend Annie. He is house trained which is great. He walks well on leash but if something triggers his fear, he will try to get away, and if he does, you will never catch him. So a 3 point harness and martingale collar is crucial to his safety. No retractable leashes, no off leash dog parks Shorty can be quite vocal and his bark is high pitched and loud. It can be very annoying for some people, and we would suggest no apartments due to the barking. He does not have separation anxiety, but he does bark when he's over excited. He needs a patient, quiet home. One that has experience working with fearful dogs that are apprehensive about human interactions. In time we are sure he will become an affectionate little dude, but his human should not expect that to happen quickly.. If you do not have experience working with fearful dogs that do not trust humans, please do not apply. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped.. His adoption fee is $795 but we would prefer him to go into a foster to adopt situation to ensure the right home is found for him. Adoption fee would be payable to the society if the foster to adopt situation works out. Adoption and foster is in the LOWER MAINLAND ONLY. An adoption application and home visit is required! To submit an application please copy and paste the following link into your web browser. www.lowermainlandhumanesociety.org/adoption-application/ We will not respond to inquiries send through the petfinder platform.
