My Story

Meet Sequoia! This sweet face! Sequoia is about 2 years old, on the petite side and despite not being treated well when she was young she has the biggest heart full of love for her family. She is the most loyal, devoted Velcro dog ever. She has become my shadow so all my photos of her are by my side - whether it's waking up, brushing my teeth, cooking, reading, working, doing chores outside - she is right there, settled in, front legs tucked under her and just happy being with me. She will look up at us adoringly. She does have bursts of energy and loves playing with her foster brothers. She loves to be chased so will antagonize them to chase her. She will play ball a little but not very much into fetch. She seems to prefer cuddle time with a few times for exercise to get the wiggles out. She recently conquered her fear of stairs and will go up and down now cautiously. She does go in a crate when we need, but we have found she's happiest in her bed for the night right next to our bed. Sequoia loves our cat, plays with him gently and also respects the chickens when when they are roaming around the yard. She will hunt the occasional fly but we just haven't seen a strong prey drive. Sequoia would do best in a home with another dog. She is happy to be the follower not the leader. In her last foster home she had bad separation anxiety but we haven't seen this probably because she has the foster sibling dogs and she's also now out of that decompression state. Sequoia is very protective of her family. New people and dogs need to be introduced slowly. She needs a family that has experience working with a dog that needs slow introductions and how to keep her on a leash during transitions. She will alert bark and bark (and even warning growl) if she meets someone new in her house / in her space. She needs to be on leash to learn that these are friends. She has already shown great progress and we just need this training to continue. Sequoia does have some food allergies that make her itchy - chicken and wheat predominantly. She eats a venison kibble that works well for her and can eat most treats. If you'd like to learn more about Sequoia her foster mom is happy to talk and even do a meet and greet. Just fill out an application with CalPaws and reference Sequoia! Adoption fees: Adult dogs: 1-6 years $400.00 Each of our dogs are up to date on vaccines and chiped. Lastly, we spay or neuter each of our dogs. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application! We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Being a foster is such a rewarding experience. If you are interested please review https://www.calpaws.org/fostering
