01-01-07 - Santina/Raven just left with her new parents. Her brother Dobie is in for a big surprise because he doesn't know she is coming home to live with him forever. We are so happy for our two Lost and Found Rescue dogs who are going to share their lives. It was a GREAT DAY in rescue!!
UPDATE: 12-28-06 -- Santina met her new brother Dobie (pictured below) today who also happens to be L&F Rescue.
It was a 100% love fest all the way around. They were so happy to play together so we know they are in for LOTS and LOTS of fun together. We're very happy for both our L&F dogs.
UPDATE: This picture shows what I see 90% of the time Santina is indoors. She loves to play outside (she does NOT like being cold at all since her coat is so short) and runs like a deer, but then comes in, glides over the gate, and settles down for her naps. She has the soul of a Greyhound I think!
I have revised Santina's breed. Due to her large size I thought she might have Great Dane but the more I look at her, I now actually think she is a short coated Afghan mix. Her very tight tail, her nose, her body shape looks like that of an Afghan, sans the long hair of course!
OK --- want everyone to see what I see all day and all night with this beautiful girl. She LOVES to be on the sofa and has recently found her way onto my bed. We will have to be sure that anyone who applies for Santina is accustomed to allowing dogs on the furniture. Her coat is very, very short and very shiny as you can see, so she won't be leaving globs of hair everywhere but even if she did, just to have this beauty in your life, this sweet, gentle, calm young lady would be worth anything like 'hair' on the sofa! She is one of my favorite new girls and I just love her face and her quiet spirit.
UPDATE: We had Santina transported from VA and I must say she is so wonderful! She has a very short coat and it is so shiny. She looks like a black diamond in the sun. She is happy and content to be here which shows me that she is a 'go with the flow' kind of girl. She is very large for a girl at 65 pounds and I think she needs to put on another 5 pounds.
She is an incredibly stunning 1 year old young woman! She is very calm, sweet, loving, has good manners, walks well on a leash, sits for cookies and fit right in with the GANG here. You can see that she had been a pet in former life. The problem is they allowed her to have puppies -- then allowed her to run off.
She just had a litter of puppies. I don't where her babies are. She was captured by animal control so we'll never know her story.
All we know for sure now is our job is to get her spayed 10-30-06, get her vetted, and after we evaluate her, find the very best forever home for her needs.
Santina has found herself in an URGENT
situation. She is in a shelter in VA that is full. Santina has (2) things going against her. (1) she is BLACK but she has a delightfully stunning bibb of black and white ticking -- and (2) she is very LARGE for a female.
Well, those are two favorites in dogs at Lost and Found Dog Rescue. We know that BLACK/LARGE dogs are harder to place, but that is what we do. We take the hard cases because we know that we can find them a family. It just takes much more time then say a yellow or chocolate dog. Everyone wants them for their color. We chose dogs that really need us and who have sweet and gentle souls.
We do need your help though to get her on a transport. We need to get another foster home to put her in. We simply do not have anymore room for anymore dogs. Dogs should not have to die because of a shortage of temporary foster homes.
This is what the shelter has to say about her: Satine is a gorgeous girl, long legged and elegant. She is around a year old, and weighs about 60 lbs. She is sweet, quiet, friendly and walks well on a leash. Santina came to us as a stray and will be available after October 2nd.

Please Note:
We do not adopt our puppies to people who work full-time. Part-time is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.
We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) 'potty break' daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to 'hold it' for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our 'shelter kids' to be expected to do so.
We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
