My Story

Sanibel's adoption fee is WAIVED as part of Homeward Trails' Helping Happy Hounds Program! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to Lois: mailto: [email protected] PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Any dog located at Trails Home Farm requires an appointment for all approved applicants to have a meet and greet. LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, 2581 Winchester Rd, Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Lois, [email protected] ADOPTION FEE: $0 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 40 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Sanibel gets along with most dogs, and does better with calmer dogs. KNOWN WITH CATS: Sanibel is cat friendly. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Sanibel is shy around new people, but doesn't take long before she asks for your affection. So far she has done well with teenagers. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sanibel knows "sit" and "leave it". Have been working on "place." KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Sanibel is housebroken. She's showing signs of separation anxiety and living with another dog who's calm and confident would help her ease her anxiety. KNOWN LIKES: Sanibel loves treats and playing with a tennis ball. She loves to snuggle and go for walks with other dogs. KNOWN DISLIKES: Sanibel has a hard time with new people coming into her home. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Sanibel came from a property where she lived mostly outdoors with 29 other dogs. She would do best with another calm and confident dog. She will need to learn to be a family member with patience, understanding and good treats to motivate her and continue to grow her confidence. Sanibel is a sweet lap dog. Her favorite thing is to snuggle up close to you. She loves to play and toss up the tennis ball. She is treat motivated a quick learner. Sanibel does best meeting new people outside on a walk. She is a little nervous but is still quite friendly. She struggles with allowing new people into the home. The new adopter would need to continue her training with this as well as working on crate training for her separation anxiety. To help with this, we have free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington /Alexandria only) Sanibel deserves a loving home just as much as the next gal. Will you give her that chance to show you how amazing she really is?
