My Story

SAMSON What a mug!! Samson is a Neapolitan (Italian) Mastiff. Fans of Harry Potter movies will recognize this breed. Samson was found as a stray and appears to be a young adult, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 years old. He is presently 100 pounds, but is on the thin side. His ideal weight will likely be 120 - 130 pounds. Obviously, he is a giant breed dog. Samson also drools, and small lakes will appear on the floor after he drinks water, so drool towels are a good idea! Samson is brand new to his foster home, but seems like a loving dog so far. He likes to go for walks and greet his admirers along the way. He does not hold back on the tail wagging! He loves to lay his head in a lap (any more of him in a lap would be pretty darn heavy!) He seems to be OK with other dogs, but he is still in the introduction phase. Cats are unknown. Samson is seeing anotherl vet this week for some help with an eye condition...we will know more soon. He is crate-trained and adores his toys. Anyone interested in Samson should learn about the breed first. As adorable as this dog is, the breed is not for everyone. There are several sites on the Internet with information, including www.neorescue.net. Samson needs an experienced dog owner (preferably large dog experience) and obedience classes are a must for this adolescent young man. A fenced yard is required (no invisible fencing). We have not seen him with young children, though children over 10 should be OK. He will be placed with female dogs only.
