Sammy was found by one of our volunteers in November and she has had him ever since. He had a broken leg and has fully recovered. He is black & brown. Sammy's mommy also has 2 Basenji's which have become territorial and aggressive towards Sammy. So, the mommy decided to do whats best for SAMMY and find him a special home. He is a little over a year old and weighs 23 pounds. He is housebroken. He loves to be outside during the day and inside at night. He would need a fenced backyard and will require a home check by the foster mom. He's the most happy-go-lucky dog you'll meet. He loves other dogs and always wants to play. He still acts like a puppy although I guess that he's over a year old. He's small - about 23 lbs - and not very tall - maybe 16 or 17 inches?? He loves to be outside as much as possible and loves to sleep indoors at night. He is housebroken. He's only had 2 accidents in the house in the 8 or 9 months that we've had him - once he was sick and messed his crate and the other time, I'm not sure why it happened. He sleeps in a crate in our house, but he would love to be free to sleep in the open. He's amazingly quiet in the house and yard. He only barks when there is someone or something in the yard. He loves both soft and hard chew toys (he is a chewer!). He seems to love soft stuffed animals best of all. He understands "No" so once scolded he leaves things alone that he shouldn't touch. He is very loving and loves attention. He is playful and "mouthy" in that he takes your hand in his mouth - but he does not bite and understands "No Bite". He lets go right away. I don't have children or cats so I don't know how he'd do - - but he is so happy and playful that I can't imagine that there would be a problem with children - - as for cats I don't know - he loves to chase the chipmunks in our yard and play with them (not kill them) so I don't know about cats.... He is up to date on all shots, neutered, and has a ID chip in him. We found him last October/November with a broken hind leg. He had orthopedic surgery on the leg, the pins have been left in (no harm to him)and we give him a daily (over the counter) supplement to keep his bones strong and ward off arthritis in years to come. I will perform a home inspection of any potential adopters. They must have a house and fenced yard. He must sleep indoors. The only reason we are adopting out this dog is because our other 2 male dogs will not accept him and act aggressively toward him. We love him and will only let him go to a safe and loving home. If there were ever a problem and he was returned - -he will come back to my home. If interested please call Sammy's foster mom - Kathy at 706-635-6507 & 813-486-5059, Ellijay, GA.
