Meet Roscoe. He's a 1 year old male and weighs about
70lbs. He's an owner surrender, and until he came
into foster care, he lived in an outside pen with 8
other GSPs. He's been with us now for about 2 months
and is doing great.
* He's fine with other dogs. He's out going and also
respectful. He does love to play and he's happy when
he finds another pooch who wants to play with him too.
He's also enjoys playing with his people friends -
and everyone is his friend as far as he is concerned.
He's just learning about balls and frisbees, and he
really likes them both. He has no aggression at all.
* He's VERY affectionate. He loves attention and
uses his big head to show you. If you are just
hanging out, here comes Roscoe to put his mush ball
face in your lap for some scratchin :) He's a real
sweetie. While he loves other dogs, he really loves
people. He's content to just hang out in the same
room with his family.
* He's great in the crate at night and when no one is
home. If you are home and crate him, he whines. He'd
much rather be part of the action and why shouldn't he
be?! He's super in the house too. He's great at
entertaining himself and plays well with all kinds of
toys.
* Roscoe listens great and is a quick learner. He
knows sit, down and no. He's learning about birds and
other furry critters - chipmunks are a favorite too.
He fine with water and enjoys a dip in the baby pool
now and again! He also rides well in the car.
* Roscoe is badly built though. He doesn't have the
greatest conformation. His dad was 130lbs and his mom
was 40lbs. Roscoe looks like he has the frontside of
his dad and backside of his mom. We've had him xrayed
by our vet and it shows there is nothing medically
wrong with him. (His stance is similar to a German
Shepard.) We've also had him evaluated by two
physical therapists and both of them generally support
the following observations:
-- His physique appears to have resulted from
accelerated growth as a young pup that was not
addressed at the appropriate time.
-- His hip joints are not degenerative and there is no
joint slippage or grinding.
-- A healthy diet that contains moderate protein may
help reverse some impairment.
-- He should maintain a nice, lean weight.
-- Soft, squishy pillows to lie on even when crated
will insure his comfort.
* We started with some water therapy to see if it be
helpful now or for the future as he ages. This will
be evaluated to assess the progress and whether Roscoe
is benefiting.
***Physical Therapy is NOT a requirement of Roscoe's
adoptive family.
* As observed from his foster family, his build does
not hinder his ability at all. He is very active and
can easily keep up with the family GSP; both inside
and out. Besides his appearance, he acts just like
your typical GSP.
* Once you meet Roscoe, you won't even notice. He
has such a wonderful personality and steals everyone's
heart. He is a GREAT dog. This guy is handsome AND a
love bug, what could be better?!!!
