My Story

Roscoe's foster has had him for two days and he is already beginning to be a part of the family. His owners have had him since he was young. They are losing their rental home and the new baby has caused them to be financially unable to keep him, or give him the annual vet care he should have. He has been spending his days in an extremely undersized cage while they have been working. He is great with the fosters female Dane Claire. He is crate trained in my Dane sized condo cage if I give him a treat to go in (where he sleeps at night). He really is a lovely boy. Very much a great Dane. Wants to hold the couch down and thinks the foster's bed is there just for him. They are working on manners and make him stay before he is to go out or in the door. He knows sit (for food) and down on his bed. They are working on stay with a hand gesture that he finds amusing but will eventually comply. He needs some more training on the leash but otherwise he is pretty good. The fosters would like to have a few weeks with him to work on boundaries. His owners had let him leap over baby gates, they have a toddler, and keep the child contained but not the dog. He is good with children but his tail and big size mean he can do damage to small people at his level without meaning to. They have had no bathroom issues until he saw a plant that I had on the floor that he thought was a 1/2 bath or powder room that was meant to be marked. I would still say that he was house trained but had the male marking of bush issue. It is recommended that he goes to a house where they love BIG dogs. Danes are house dogs and don't do well in severe heat or cold, so they are definitely not yard dogs. I don't know if he would eat a cat, but he is so strong I would not like to be at the end of the leash when he saw one. Again, they are working on leash training. Roscoe is gorgeous and sweet, approximately 2 years od. Someone will be lucky to have him.
