My Story
ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/11175
Pleased to meet you! I'm Roland a 90 lb hound mix, about 8 years old.
I love people but tend to want to be one of the guys.
I like when other pets and humans match my lower energy level, or I could be an only child too!
It's probably best that I stay clear of the kitchen or I might help myself to a tasty treat, or two! I haven't always known where my next meal will come from, so I can get a little moody towards people and animals. This is true with spaces too.
You can't make me get off the couch but I can be convinced.
My foster dad has been working really hard with me and I have come a long way! He says that all my quirks can be easily managed, but my new family must have the patience to listen and be willing to understand them.
Some information you might like to know;
-Loves to walk, but hold on tight I can pull
-Crate trained, but secure me in
-Loud noises can spook me, especially when I'm alone
-Food Motivated
-I'm a people person
-I could chill with a cool cat
-I'd be better with an experienced dog owner

This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving at the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. The dog was treated for the disease prior to transport north. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPHs heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read more about heartworm disease here here

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. (OPH) rescues dogs and cats of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters in NC, VA, MD, and SC, reducing the numbers being euthanized. With limited resources, the shelters are forced to put down 50-90% of the animals that come in the front door. OPH provides pet adoption services to families located in VA, DC, MD, PA and neighboring states. OPH is a 501(c)(3) organization and is 100% donor funded. OPH does not operate a shelter or have a physical location. We rely on foster families who open their homes to give love and attention to each pet before finding a forever home.All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
