My Story

7/19/06: Roamer or Romeo as we think suits him, is a stay that averted authorities for over a year. This poor dog roamed around from camp to camp looking for food and shelter but had no interest in being caught...at least not until recently. Now that he has found a family to show him some attention, he has decided that he likes it that way and may even remember a home he once had. We don't know where he came from or why he came to be homeless, but it is obvious that he was loved and well trained by his former owner. He is a big boy ~75# but the vets think he is still too thin and should go 90#+ full grown. Due to his handsome features we think he is probably an Akita perhaps Newfie mix making him a real life teddy bear! His breed is a guess though he has several Akita features. His fur is similar to a G. Shepherd and his head is smaller than the typical Akita. He knows commands such as sit, stay, shake, down and roll over and does wonderfully on a leash as well. He is currently being fostered by a home with several cats as well as dogs and he is exceptional with them all. In fact, he is even good with wildlife and was caught buddying up to a fox at the camp where he is staying. The fox actually returned several nights to see his friend kenneled up and could be heard "barking" to him. How special is that! Who could be a better judge of character than a fox? Hence the saying "cunning as a fox :)". We believe he is ~3-4 years old judging by his teeth...his laxed demeanor is more like what you would expect from a bit older dog, however, though the vets he's seen believe 3-4 yrs is a more accurate age. Roamer DID test positive to exposure to lyme disease on a 3DX test. Please contact your veterinarian about this condition and if you've been looking for a life-sized teddy bear with GOOD manners, training and LOTS of love to give, please call us about Romeo. He has been examined, vaccinated, dewormed, deflead, bathed, neutered and he will be heartworm tested later this week. His adoption donation is $125 to help defray veterinary expenses.

Please copy and paste a completed adoption application from our homepage with your inquiry. Priority will be given only to those inquiries that contain a completed application. We get dozens of emails and phone calls each day with only an hour of "free time" to volunteer and answer them around our full-time jobs and family life...don't let your inquiry get passed by because of an incomplete application.
Help our rescue by donating to our "Spay the momma fund". When adopting one of our babies, if each new family would contribute an extra $10 we can help out that babies mother by assisting with the cost of her spay. Help turn the momma into a pet rather than a breeding factory, donate today!
