My Story

RIO Are you looking for a young energetic dog who will be your sidekick throughout your day? Rio is a two-year old confident boy who loves car rides, going for walks, and exploring new places. He will be a great adventure buddy for an active household. He is crate and house-trained and walks well on a leash. With Rio, your day will start with being awakened by a few quiet barks from the side of your bed. Once you are up, Rio will request belly rubs. He will wait patiently while you get ready for his morning walk. On your walk, his intense gaze will alert you to squirrels, rabbits, cats or birds. After his walk comes breakfast and then his favorite activity - a trip to the dog park! Humans love him at the dog park because he engages their dogs to run or play. He loves wrestling with other dogs, especially if it includes gentle mouthy play. If no one will wrestle, he will take tennis balls away from other dogs just to get them to chase him. He will run and quickly change directions, keeping the other dogs just off his tail. Rio is great at self-regulation and will rest in a “sploot” for several minutes until he is ready to play again. After getting his energy out and returning home, he will be ready to laze under the kitchen table, on the couch or under your bed. So far this boy has preferred to rest directly on the floor over sleeping on a dog bed. Rio’s evening includes dinner, another walk and play with some of his toys. Rio can be mischievous and will sometimes grab something he knows he is not supposed to have and quickly dive under a bed with it. He will readily accept an appropriate chew toy in exchange for his contraband. Rio has become a talkative boy and will bark and awoo in various volumes and tones for attention. He does this to try to get people or other dogs to play with him, to let you know he needs to go outside to go potty and to alert you that you might have forgotten it is meal time. We are not sure of his breed(s), but he is smart, determined, mildly protective and loyal. He will need mental and physical exercise like most working breeds. He does well in crowds (bring on the attention!) and gets along well with other friendly dogs. Although he is gentle when meeting new people, if there are children in the home they would need to be dog-savvy as he sometimes gets excited and jumps on or gets playfully mouthy with his humans at home. Due to Rio’s prey drive, his home should be free of small critters. https://www.vermontenglishbulldogrescue.com/non-bulldog-application/
