** A pet owners' nightmare ** ~~ Riley's Story ~~ You have loved a great dog for a long time. He is now 7 years old and you had him from a puppy. Life has thrown you a curve ball and you are forced to sell your country home, get rid of most of your possessions, and move to an apartment. You have to make the heart wrenching decision to rehome your dog. You finally find someone who will take your dog and give him a home. You put your trust in this person - a local business owner and an upstanding citizen. In 2 weeks - 2 WEEKS - the dog wanders away from his new home. He doesn't know that's his home. His world is turned upside down and he doesn't understand where he is supposed to sleep anymore You get a phone call from the pound. Your dog was microchipped and you are the last owner on record. You contact the new owner and find out that he doesn't care enough to go get your dog despite having sworn to the moon and back that he would care for Riley like his own dog. The new owner claimed Riley dug a hole under the fence to run away - he doesn't care that Riley was just trying to get back to the only home he has known for the last 7 years. You are heartbroken but you are out of time to find your dog a home. You haven't anywhere to put him. No one who will care for him. No where to go. Again you make the decision to give your dog up but this time it is to the pound. You don't know what will happen or where he will go. You don't know if he will find a home. You don't know if he will end up in a research facility. You don't know how he will manage. There are no other options for you, you who have had to give up everything. Dear previous owner, we will take care of your dog. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes we can count on our friends and family to help us, but sometimes we can't. There is no shame in a situation where someone let you down, only a learning opportunity. Riley is an amazing dog. He ignores all of the other dogs and seems to get along with all of the humans he has met. He loves to be outside but seems to settle nicely indoors as well.
