ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 53 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: At the HTAR Adoption Center, Rico is a very socialized dog who can change his playstyle to accommodate other dogs in the play yards. In the home environment, it has been noted that he can be selective with other dogs. Rico does best as the only dog living in his home. KNOWN WITH CATS: Rico has lived with cats and is very respectful of their space. Sometimes he wants to play but takes a "no" well. He is very good living with cats. Even when a cat pops him, Rico is friendly. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Rico was great with the children that lived with him but was not a fan of young friends coming.. We would suggest Rico go home with children who are 14 years old or older. KNOWN COMMANDS: Rico knows sit, down and stay and shake, watch. He is making good progress on watch, leave it, and take it and lets go. He is very smart and enjoys training! Rico loves a nice game of fetch and he likes tug too. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Rico is completely house trained. He is not a fan of the crate but does well confined to a room while his people were out of the home. In his foster home, he happily sleeps in his crate with the door open and has been well-behaved when left free-roaming in the home. KNOWN LIKES: Rico LOVES his people and makes friends easily. He is a very affectionate and loyal companion. Rico is ready to play or take up a place near your feet for a nap. He is a great cuddler and is happy to bath you in kisses. He is very gentle with his humans and will let you take just about anything from him. Rico will bark at people coming to the home but it takes just a handful of treats from them for him to decide they are his friends. KNOWN DISLIKES: Rico doesn't like every dog he meets on walks and he isn't a fan of trucks and motocycles and workers carrying objects. He is very easy to redirect with commands and treats. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: What would you get if you paired a chihuahua with a lab? Rico! Looking for a smart, affectionate loyal buddy in a great medium size? Rico is your boy. He's at that perfect age where he's up for a 10 mile hike or a day doing nothing other than hanging out by your side. Rico can be wary of new people but a handful of treats and he's your new bud. He loves attention and pets and reciperates with kisses. He loves a belly rub. Other favorite activities are playing fetch or tug. While Rico sometimes pulls a bit when he spies a squirrel, another dog or a loud truck, he generally is a great leash walker. He has lived with cats and is friendly and respectful. He has even brought his toys over to share with cats! Rico will bark at people at the door and sometimes wildlife he sees outside. He will be best living in the burbs in a townhouse or single family home. Rico would love to continue his training with a loving human. He is so smart and eager to learn.
