My Story

Reyna is a beautiful Shepherd/Doberman mix who was born in August 2016. She weighs about 50 lbs. Reyna survived parvo as a puppy but unfortunately, was subsequently diagnosed with two other congenital issues - Megaesophagus (ME) and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Dogs with ME have a dilated esophagus due to lack of muscle tone, which causes food to sit in the esophagus rather than travel to the stomach. Reyna's ME is very mild and is managed by making sure she eats and drinks from an elevated feeder. EPI occurs when the pancreas does not secrete the enzymes needed to digest food and results in weight loss and diarrhea. Reyna's EPI is managed by adding a supplement to her food that costs approximately $100 per month. Both conditions are currently well-managed. Reyna is good with most of the dogs in her foster home but can be pushy sometimes. She likes to chase cats. Reyna does not meet new dogs well – she becomes very defensive, so needs time to make new dog friends. She is good with people but too active for small children. She is housebroken and crate trained. Reyna would love to have a family of her own.
