My Story

06/08/2010: REMI HAS BEEN ADOPTED FOR THE SECOND, AND WE HOPE, FINAL TIME!! GOOD LUCK TO REMI AND HIS NEW DAD STEVE! WE WISH YOU BOTH MANY HAPPY YEARS TOGETHER!! SPECIAL THANK YOU TO STEVE FOR GIVING REMI HIS SECOND CHANCE !!!UPDATE: 06/03/2010: We have had Remi back with us for almost two months now and have not noticed the aggressive behaviors that he was returned to us for. We are unsure if he was just stressed with all of the activity in his first adoptive home or if he becomes possessive/territorial of his new family and/or his space. We believe that he would most likely do best in a quiet home where he is not stressed from many people coming and going and can bond with one or two individuals. Remi initially lived with an elderly woman so that type of home would most likely be his ideal. Remi is very vocal when visitors do come so he would also make a great watchdog for someone living alone. Remi would best be matched with an owner who has a dominant personality and who is not afraid to take control and let Remi know who is boss. I am leaving the update regarding his first adoptive family's observations of his behavior on his profile so that his next adoptive family will be prepared for any behaviors that may present. Please do not be scared away....Remi is a sweet boy who just needs the right family for him to be the happy, confident boy we know he is. UPDATE: 04/17/2010: POOR REMI...after nearly 8 months with his new family, he has been returned to us and is actively seeking his forever home. Remi was returned to us because he was reported to have grown snippy with his new owner, her children and visiting children. His owner believed that he was biting and snapping out of fear and she said that he has a particular dislike of men and boys. We all believe that Remi would do best in a home WITHOUT children and his new potential home must be stable and quiet. He must have a regular routine and there must not be a lot of people coming and going as Remi seems to get riled up with A LOT of visitors, loud (typical) children behaviors and people he does not know. His comfort zone appears to be one of only one or two adult people. His owner did say that she has him housebroken completely and that when Remi was only with her, he did very well. We are going to continue assessing Remi's behaviors and will be working with him on his biting issue(and we will attempt to assess where this behavior is coming from and what triggers it) . He is a good boy otherwise and will make a single person or couple who live the quiet life a nice companion. Please consider Remi ONLY if you can give him the kind of home that he needs AND understand his behaviors and how to deal with them. You must have had dog experience in the past and be a STRONG personality that commands respect from their "pack". WE ARE MARKING HIM AS SPECIAL NEEDS ONLY BECAUSE OF HIS BITING/SNAPPING ISSUES WHICH WILL REQUIRE A SPECIAL HOME-HE HAS NO SPECIAL CARE NEEDS, HOWEVER! 7/31/2009: Remi has been socialized with my children however he prefers NO KIDS!!He enjoys cuddling on the couch with you and loves affection! He is also a great watchdog-he will bark when someone comes into the house and lets you know when he has to go out or wants to come in(he doesn't like to stay outside too long)..He will always be positive for the erlichiosis but he has finished his treatment and is doing well. Vet says that it should not affect him in anyway and that he will be considered a carrier of the erlichiosis now(meaning that he will always have this in his bloodstream and test positive in the future).4/28/09: Remi has been to the vet and now is thoroughly vetted and ready to find his new home. Remi was estimated to be 3-5 years old and was a bit overweight at 13.2 pounds. He did test positive for erlichiosis which is a disease transmitted by the brown dog tick. He is on doxicycline pills for a month to treat it and will need to be retested after he finishes the pills. According to the vet and thru researching on the internet(as he is our first erlichia positive dog), it is 98% treatable so it should not be a permanent condition. The vet also recommended at some point getting Remi's teeth cleaned but this is typical routine care with many small breed dogs. Other than that, Remi has received a clean bill of health and would love to find the perfect home for him! HIS STORY:Remi is a purebred miniature pinscher who had to be given up by his elderly owner because she went into a nursing home. He is a nice boy who is housebroken (from what I am told) and who is eager to find his forever home, He was not raised around kids but he seems to be fine with mine. He probably should not go to a home with toddlers or "grabby" children as sudden movements frighten him and he could snap(although he has not exhibited any aggressive behaviors here). He doesn't seem to mind cats either. He gets along with other dogs but likes to be dominant. He loves to ride in a car so he would make an excellent traveling companion in a nice compact size. We will be getting him vetted soon and he will be ready to join his new family. If you want a nice, small good looking companion, then Remi may be your guy! Remi's adoption fee is $100 and will cover his vetting and care while here with us.
