My Story

Let it Rain! Rain is approximately 5 years old, an old soul with eyes that tell untold stories of her unbelievable past. At the most recent vet follow-up on her front left leg's limp, a set of X-rays of all four legs revealed shocking discovery. The vet found bullets, bullet fragments and BB pellet in Rain's legs and body. One of the bullets shattered her front left humerus and the bone healed on its own in an abnormal way (we can't even imagine the pain that Rain went through at the time), the inflammation causes Rain to hesitate putting full weight on that leg. We are not 100% sure but the vet said that Rain was probably used for target practice. Despite the atrocious abuse, this girl has remained sweet and loves people of all ages, dogs of all sizes and even cats and horses. Rain has a low to medium energy, she's perfect for a family that wants a calm and easy going dog, daily short walk and occasional trip to the beach. She had been to Poplar Beach in HMB and hiked Devil's Slide with foster mom, and easily did 1-1.4 miles. She's doing well on Galliprant once a day to manage the inflammation, join supplement and turmeric. You'd be surprised to see Rain running around the house and backyard, tossing her toys in the air and playing with Pita, the other Calpaws K9 girl. Rain loves her daily walk and is good on loose leash walking, she knows her basic commands and being a German Shepherd, she will alert her people with a loud alarm bark. Rain is not asking for much, her only wish is to find a family that will keep her safe and cherish her for the rest of her life. Dogs over 1 and under 6 years old: $400 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm and microchip each dog as well as spay or neuter. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application!
