My Story

Ragnar grew up in the country and loves sitting outside suntanning or enjoying the quiet. He listens when called and knows all his basic commands. Ragnar can be excited in new situations and environments but once aquatinted loves to nap most of the day and be close to his loved ones - if you let him on your couch or bed with you he loves to snuggle! A home with children is ok, as long as the children are older because Ragnar sometimes forgets his size. Ragnar is excellent on a leash, but does get excited when he sees other dogs or animals. He has never been off leash with other dogs as he has a history of showing aggression to other animals so a home without other dogs or pets is his happy place. Despite his breed, Ragnar would not make a good protection dog or guard dog. Hes been a house dog his whole life, enjoys his comforts and will only have 10 minute bursts of energy before he wants to lay down. Ragnar does well with meeting new people but being that his breed is naturally weary of strangers, he can be nervous with men so controlled introductions are best. When he really likes someone he will get excited, jump, knock you over and play bite your arm. It’s important to note that this is totally just play behavior, he stops when you tell him, and he basically just acts like a big toddler. Ragnar is a big boy, weighing around 150lbs, he has some mild arthritis in his joints so he needs to take it easy and avoid hard, strenuous exercise and jumping. Ideally Ragnar would do well as the sole animal in a household with older children or adults. Free range backyard, walks are enjoyable, but not begged for. He loves cuddles and being close with his family, so someone who doesn’t mind animals on furniture, but he is also ok with just his bed on the floor. He isn’t great on stairs because of his size, so a bungalow would be ideal or his bed on the main floor of the house. (Experience with power breeds is preferred but not a necessity if willing to show responsibility and learn)
