My Story

Are you looking for a companion to love you unconditionally for the next 14 years or more? Look no further! I’m perfect for you!

If my killer smile doesn’t win you over, here’s a few of my super appealing traits in no particular order:

-At 1½ years young, I’m fully grown at 35 pounds. Not too big and not too small!

-My soft, silky coat is a gorgeous black and gold. You HAVE to see it for yourself.

-Am I housetrained? ABSOLUTELY!

-I adore people, other dogs and people. And I love people (did I mention that?)

-If you want kisses, I’ve got an unending supply!!!

-I’m a little afraid of cats so I try to avoid them.

-I am quiet and well behaved and not crazy-wild like a puppy.

-If you’ll let me, I’d love to sit in your lap but I’m just as happy to be near you.

-You can take me for walks! You don’t have to worry about me pulling you around on a leash because I’m a gentle gal.

-If you have errands to run, I’ll gladly keep you company in the car.

-I already sit when asked and most of the time I come when called. There isn’t much I won’t do for a cookie so you won’t have any problems training me to be the most charming little lady I can possibly be.

If you don’t have a chance to meet me, I’ll get some updated pictures soon so you can see how beautiful I really am. You won’t see how beautiful I am on the inside but my foster mom can tell you all about it. She really thinks I’m special.

Racheal was brought to the shelter on 06/02/07. Racheal is around 1 1/2 years old, weighs appx 35 pounds and is heartworm free!!!! She is a very quiet dog with a sweet demeanor. Please help us find her a home. This dog is sooooooooooo loving, not hyper, very docile. UPDATE: 7-10-07 Things have cooled off between the 3yr old and I, we are all getting along in harmony. You know, I spent a month in the shelter before coming to my foster home and the life I led before this is a mystery, so give a girl a break and some time to adjust. My foster mother has taught me to sit and is trying to get me to sit and stay. She has to correct me a few times in order to get me to stay. I am just so happy and want my yummy dog treat that I get up and go to her before she calls for me. I do enjoy the walks that I get out on from time to time. Last night was the 1st night I had run of the house, there were no night time accidents and the house was in order. I just went inside my crate and slept in their, with the door open most of the night I am so ready to be someone’s forever dog.

UPDATE 05/04/07: I am now in a foster home. I haven’t had any accidents in the last 24hrs since I’ve been here. The cat has made it clear that she is not to be messed with, I dropped to the floor when she lashed out at me. I am not good around small childern, the 3yr old in this home is a bit much for me and I will bark and growl at her when I’ve had enough. I just don't care for playing but I am no plug either, I do love to be petted by her and give her kisses in return. I get along with the 7yr old boy just fine. I’ve been on one walk since I’ve been here and had no accidents in the last 24hours. Oh, one of my paws only has two toes, you'll have to adopt me to find out whice one it is.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
