My Story

Update 6/2/06: Quinn has been adopted. Congratulations Mike, Brenda, and family!

Update 5/29/06: We recently started on crate training. For a few hours at most, we put all six puppies into a big kennel. So far results have been wonderful! Potty training is going very well. We've been taking them outside, and they seem to understand that it's where they're supposed to go potty. However, they do not signal that they need to go out. When they first get up from a nap, just after eating, or when they start to sniff around are the times they need outside. They're getting better and coming back in the house on their own when they are done outside. Since we've been going out now, they sleep a lot better, especially right after a good 20 minute play session in the grass! We are currently screening through the applications for Quinn. We are no longer accepting applications right now for her, as we have a few to go through and several look pretty good. We're just pending home checks. If you'd like to adopt one of her siblings, Ophelia, Omega, and Orlando are still awaiting someone to put in an application for them.

Update 5/23/06: The vet visit went great! Quinn is now current on her vaccinations, and has been deemed healthy! She weighed in at 7.1 pounds. She will be ready to go to her forever home on June 2 (8 weeks old)!

Update 5/20/06: Today the puppies got their very first collars, complete with stainless steel name tags! Quinn has a red collar.

Update 5/18/06: Vaccinations are scheduled for Monday (5/22/06). We will be holding a special adoption day Saturday May 27th from 1-2pm at Pet North in Brainerd. We strongly encourage everyone interested in adopting to please come and meet them in person!

Update 5/17/06: Today was "get as dirty as you can" day (I guess we didn't get the memo). So as long as they were all getting another bath, we let them go outside in the play yard for the first time. As you can see they seemed to have a blast, but got even dirtier - notice the dirt on her shoulder.

Update 5/9/06: The puppies have started eating solid food mixed with the soft. Potty training is progressing, and aim is improving, but not perfect. The puppies have been introduced to toys now and enjoy playing with tennis balls and rope toys. They haven't shown much interest in the Kong, Nylabone, or real bone.

Update 5/6/06: Quinn got her first bath! She has taken on an alpha personaility, and can hold her own, despite being the smallest. She plays a lot and is curious about new things. She can get pretty vocal when she's playing with her siblings, and sees no problem with nipping at your pants if you're ignoring her. The puppies were moved yesterday from the livingroom into the kitchen to help with potty training and giving them a bit more space to play.

Update 5/2/06: All puppies now have teeth and are starting on soft puppy food once a day in addition to nursing.

Update 4/28/06: Potty training is a success!! All of the puppies have now used the piddle pad! We will start with outside potty training after 6-week vaccinations.

Update 4/26/06: Quinn is the resident instigator. She growls and barks and wants to play with everyone. She's the most active pup in the group, and despite being the runt, she can hold her own. She's very vocal!

Update 4/17/06: Quinn's eyes are opening!

Quinn is one of an unwanted litter of 6 pups born Friday, April 7th 2006. They appear to be lab/shar pei by best guess (their faces are wrinkled). Only time will tell for sure though. **Update 4/20/06: Quinn appears to be a "horse-coated" shar pei - mixed with lab of course, but her face is quite wrinkled, and she very much resembles photos of purebred puppies (less the heavy body wrinkles).

Quinn was the fifth born. She is solid yellow, and the runt of the litter. She appears to have darker stripes, almost like a tabby cat. At 24-hours old Quinn weighed exactly 1 pound. At 11 days old (4/18/06) she weighed 2 pounds, 4 ounces. At three weeks old (4/29/06), Quinn weighed 3 pounds, 6 ounces.

We are accepting applications now, but these puppies will not be available until they are 8-12 weeks old. At that time they will be current on vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, well socialized, and started on potty training. As with all adoptions, this puppy will go to her new home with a collar, ID tag, microchip tag, vaccination records, adoption kit, and rabies tag (if 16 weeks or older).

Adoption fee is $150.

Please call between noon and 6pm. We only adopt to homes in Minnesota.
