My Story

General Notes | Harvey didn't get dealt the best hand to start, but has the foundation to flourish. He would do best with a fenced yard to run freely in. He's got a lot of energy. Harvey is very food motivated, which should help with his learned skills and new ones. He'll need someone to show him lots of patience and love. Harvey would benefit from someone who can be assertive to set boundaries and patient will he learns. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Health Notes | Harvey is up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative! Harvey should always have treats and food in his crate, this is how he's been trained and it should continue. Other Dogs | This boy is GREAT with other dogs but like all of our adoptable dogs, he needs a respectful introduction of sniffing and walking on leash prior to play. He is trained to meet all dogs on leash in a "sit," and will walk up and sniff and encourage dogs to do the same. This is part of Harvey's trained skills and we would like to continue and promote his usage of his new tricks. Harvey would be great in a home with another dog! Cats | Unknown Children | No exposure yet to children since arriving in CO. He'd do best in a home without small children. Training | This dog knows sit, stay, place and walks on a leash beautifully. Due to his past and not knowing how to "dog," Harvey went to a board and train while his foster was out of town and has flourished with training. Harvey has shown off his training in his CO foster home. He does really well with sit/stay prior to going outside and eating. He's comfortable in his crate and will go in on command. He does really well in the car crate as well. Completely house trained. Leash | Harvey does really well on leash and receptive to training. Activity Level | Normal activity level for a dog his age. He likes to play but will also relax in the home after a walk. Personality | Harvey is a handsome, energetic, playful, goofy dog who loves to play. He can't get enough of his toys. He loves playing fetch and running around outside. Harvey really enjoys his walks and being able to explore. It takes some time to earn his trust but when you do he's got a love to give. Plus he's really smart and very eager to do the right things. Harvey developed guarding and food aggression due to his upbringing. His training has worked on this and his adopter will need to continue. Story | Harvey was dumped at a shelter by his owner after he had lived in a small apartment with a young man and his friend. Both dogs in the home were adopted as puppies and then kept in a crate 12 hours a day, rarely getting time to play. When Harvey got into his foster home it was clear he had never been loved or spent time with humans. After training Harvey is ready for a family of his own! Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
