My Story

Pumpkin is a slim 8 year old little girl who is shy until she get to know you. Pumpkin was a puppy mill momma that is in need of some love. She has a lot of great qualities and her only real issue is her shyness toward unfamiliar people, especially men. Because of her fear, her home must not have children under 12 years old. This cute girl also needs a fenced in yard, so that she can choose when she is ready to interact with new people. Once she trusts her person, love, affection, snuggling, play, boating, trips and walks are all things that she enjoys. She is on a low dose of anti-anxiety medication, and her family should be willing to follow up with a vet and a positive reinforcement trainer as needed. Although she's a good leash walker with her human she knows and trusts, with a new person she will alternate between trying to bolt and flattening herself to the ground if they hold her leash. So, for her safety in the initial week(s) of adjustment, a fenced yard is mandatory. Once she is comfortable and trusts her person, though this dog loves loves, loves walks!!! She could take a good walk every day!! Right now she only lets a female put a leash on her, but once the leash is on, another familiar family member can walk her. She is also ok if she doesn’t get a walk on a day, but plays or chews a bone. She is also an excellent eater, she loves food and treats, other dogs, car rides and likes to snuggle with a familiar female. Every day she is coming out of her shell and trusting more and more. Pumpkin just got back from a 12 day respite with another foster family while her foster mom was on vacation. She started to warm up, but at her own pace, initially not allowing new people near her. If you've heard of the rule of 3s where dogs adjust over 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months, you can expect her timeline to be a bit longer. So, she needs patience and some time to adjust. The ideal home for her would be with a female (main caretaker) with a fenced in yard and another dog. (She hasn't been around a cat, but would likely be fine.) At her familiar foster home, she is totally potty trained and lets the family know when she has to go out. Be aware that she'll have accidents initially, due to the change, and possibly some marking. Pumpkin is spayed and up to date on vaccinations, and her adoption fee is $350.
