My Story

This is Prince. He is a gorgeous blue merle great dane/ pitbull mix. He is about 1 year old, house trained and very loving. He weighs close to 90 pounds. He is a big loving boy.

He is looking for a loving and permanent home with lots of room to play safely in. Visit him soon!

Special Note: Prince does need to be adopted within Whitley County only because of his breed mix according to shelter policy. However, rescues are welcome from out of the county. Please contact us for more details.

More about the Great Dane breed: The Great Dane is a gentle giant. Dignified, kind, sweet and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. It loves everyone and needs to be around people. The Great Dane does not bark much and only becomes aggressive when the circumstances require it.

A steady dog, responsible and dependable. Brave and loyal, it is a good watchdog. Because of his giant size, the Great Dane should be thoroughly obedience trained when young so it will be manageable when fully grown. Teach this giant dog not to lean against people, especially children.

Some individuals are dog-aggressive, especially with same sex dogs. It is good with other dogs if it is raised with them from puppyhood. This breed may be slightly difficult to train.

The Great Dane will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. It is relatively inactive indoors and does best with at least a large yard. The Great Dane needs plenty of exercise, at the very least a long daily walk. The average is under 10 years, however some can live to be 12-13 years old.

More about the Pit Bull Terrier: These are truly quality companions for quality owners only! The American Pit Bull Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults.

Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. Highly protective of his owners and the owner's property, it will fight an enemy. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. The American Pit Bull Terrier can be willful and needs a firm hand.

They are generally okay with other pets if they are raised with them from puppy hood. For the most part they are very friendly, but not recommended for most people. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed though, they should not be left unsupervised with children.

Originally used as fighting dogs, the powerful American Pit Bull may attack strange dogs. A minimum of training will produce a tranquil, obedient dog. Socialize very thoroughly when young to combat aggressive tendencies and be sure to keep the dog under control when other dogs are present. It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog.

When properly trained and socialized, this is a very good dog and a great family companion. Unfortunately, some choose to promote the fighting instinct in the breed, giving it a bad name.

Keep in mind that these are just general breed characteristics - each dog is an Individual personality and most of these dogs are mixes!
