My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: South Carolina Name: Poppy (20240626-01) Weight: 40lbs Age: 10 months Gender: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Medical issues: treated for demodex mange Breed: Lab Mix Colour: Cream Neck size (for collar): 16” Height (from top of head): 23.5" Length (from nose to base of tail): 26” Crate size recommended: 42” Good with women: Yes Good with men: Yes Good with kids: Good, but due to size and energy, not recommended around young children Good with other dogs: Yes (submissive to dogs of all sizes) Good with cats: Unknown, not tested House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Puppy - needs activities/training/stimulation Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: No Flight risk: Yes when fearful. All dogs should be considered a flight risk at least until they settle in with their family Food aggressive: No Current food: Diamond Naturals for Skin and Coat Walks on leash: Yes Leash reactive to people or dogs: No Rides well in car: Yes Destructive: No, but she is still a puppy and needs supervision Needs a home with a yard: Yes Needs a home with another dog: She would love that but not a requirement Can live in an apartment: No History (how did you acquire dog?): Poppy was found as a stray in someone’s yard, with a horrible skin infection stemming from a demodex mange. Other important info: Poppy came to us broken, shut down, and fearful. After a few days of decompression, she quickly showed us what a sweet and affectionate girl she is. She loves chasing the ball with her furry foster brother or just hanging out with her human foster mom so she would do well in a house with other dogs or as a singleton getting all of the attention. She has been great on her daily walks and her confidence continues to grow. She will most likely still be fearful in new situations but with guidance and patience, I believe she can do anything. She has been such a great girl to have around the house. One of the best puppies that we have fostered. Poppy's foster mom says she is an absolute joy to have around. She’s a smart, sweet, well-rounded girl. She loves to play with her human and furry friends. She gets along with all! She’s housebroken, amazing on a leash, smart and very treat motivated. She’s the perfect dog for someone who wants to go out with her and explore or just stay home and relax.
