Poe

Poe is a beautiful mixed breed dog...maybe flat coated retriever and Newfoundland mix. His face looks Newfoundland. He is just 2 + years old. He loves to play and is very bouncy when playing, however, Poe must have had some problems with a previous owner, because he is relatively scared of humans, until a period of warm up. He wants to trust and he wants to play and he sincerely wants to understand you. He cocks his head from side to side as you speak. He knows and loves all of the staff at the shelter, but that makes him protective of us as well. So we know he will be a good watchdog. We also know that he resource guards...his crate especially. He does not like strangers approaching his crate. When worked with, Poe warms up quickly. He LOVES to be brushed, and he has a thick, long coat that will need brushing a couple of times a week. He is crate trained and we believe he is house trained, although we are not quite sure on that. He has never messed in the shelter facility, nor has he messed in his crate. Poe does not walk on collared leash, although he does better with a harness, you can tell he has never be required to do so. Poe does have trust issues, so he needs to be with people who will give him time. Women are a better fit for this dog, as he seems more scared of men, but he does eventually warm up to men as well. Poe is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.
