Adopted 6-08, thank you Ron, in Forrest Hills, CA!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pluto is a purebred who came into us as a baby with his brother. Pluto (and his brother) was actually the VERY FIRST Coonhound I ever rescued! Pluto was a adopted, back in 2002, by a wonderful local couple who treated him like a child, a real member of the family. They added a second "child", also adopted from me, about a year later. His name is Billy and you can see him here in one of the photos with Pluto. They had to move, because of work a couple years ago to AZ and were worried about taking the dogs with them at that time. They had asked me to rehome them then, but I talked them into keeping the boys. Dogs adapt, dogs do well with their owners, wherever their owners lives lead. They have since moved to Grass Valley, CA and they feel their lives have become too complicated to fairly care for the boys any longer. They are now insisting it would be better for them to find a new, better home with more time. These dogs are used to being indoors, part of the family with daily outdoor recreation and exercise. They have been extremely well cared for their whole lives and are in peak health. Pluto is now 7 yrs old. His owner's have agreed to drive up to 300 miles in any direction from Grass Valley, CA to get them to their new home(s). This is what Pluto's owner says about him: Pluto is the cadillac of running, hiking, tracking. At 7 years of age he still amazes us at the stamina he has. He does do best when he is walked every day and gets a chance to run and sniff. He has hiked on the beach, in the mountains, and in the desert. He is very obedient with a firm, confidant, consistant hand whether male or female. Pluto responds sooo well when praised. He is very, very intelligent especially when you understand him.. Cheryl, my wife, and Pluto absolutely blow me out of the water ....with how they communicate. Pluto knows how to ask and Cheryl understands exactly what he wants every single time. Both dogs are in great shape they jog with me every day. They have the greatest personalities you would ever want. Every single time we walk we have people stopping us to tell us how beautiful they are. People are amazed that the dogs are 5 and 7 because they are kept so well ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coonhounds are SUPER cute when they are puppies. Hard to resist, but please do your homework! Coonhounds aren't for everyone and do best with people who understand them. While they can be mellow, laid back and easygoing, the are extremely tenacious hunters and can rarely be content as indoor, pampered lap dogs. Their gentle, friendly temperament suits them just fine to family life, but they do need an outlet for their need to "track, trail and bay". This can be a daily run with a jogger, or a nightly trial walk in the woods. It can also be quenched with a busy child or two and some fuzzy, squeeky dog toys in a large, secure backyard..... They must be taught at a young age to come when called. This is important for you to be able to call them back off the trail of any game they might jump on your daily walks, especially when you are lucky enough to be able to walk them in a safe area, off lead. It is illegal in most states to allow your Coonhound to run loose, or run wildlife and it is your responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen. Coonhounds also have very deep, loud voices and will use them if left alone outside all the time. Being allowed to be part of family life is very important to keeping your new Coonhound happy and healthy. They are above all else, pack dogs, and being a member of your "pack" is just want they thrive on!
