My Story

Please contact Rebecca Stein ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.is sweet puppers! is not marine mammal! PLATYPUS NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Platypus Best Guess for Breed: Feist and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of July 2024 Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 9 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride after completing heartworm treatment! Special Adoption Considerations: Platypus is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Platypus is Looking For: His forever home, on dry land! While he was in the rural, overcrowded Texas shelter where he landed due to no fault of his own, he saw a documentary on dogs and realized he'd much rather be a well-loved family pet than an underwater mammal. Feeding on insect larvae and tadpoles is just a whole lot more work than chowing down on quality kibble, even if it's served up in a slow feeder. Plus. pups get to go on sniffy walks, see the mountains and the beaches from the other side and get pup cups from Starbucks for being Very Good Boys. He has so much to offer in exchange - all the adoring gazes and cuddles he's storing up in the shelter, and loyal companionship for all his days. And he promises to not lay eggs in the tub when you're bathing him, too. What do you say? Does Platypus have a spot in your lap and your life? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.
