My Story

Meet our gorgeous Phoenix, a 30 lb., 9 month old Pharaoh hound / lab mix. He has already heard you coming. Are you surprised, given the size of those ears! It is hard to believe, but Phoenix was dumped out on a Kentucky road, in an area where there were no houses. The person who found him tried to find his original home, but no one claimed him. Sadly, he was not in the best shape when he arrived at STAF, but he is 100% healthy now (wrapping up Lyme disease treatment). Phoenix can be little shy at first, but warms up quickly. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. His favorite game is to play tug. He really wants to please his humans and he is working hard on learning a lot of new things. He is mostly potty and kennel trained. He is also working on sit, waiting for his food, politely greeting people and walking well on a leash. He would do great in all types of homes (single person or couple, other dogs, cats and kids). He is a puppy so he would greatly benefit from continuing his training and socialization. Phoenix is a medium to high energy dog and would do best with in an active home engaged in a variety of activities to help keep him engaged. He and those ears are all ready to become a fun and loving member in his new forever home. Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process. *** Email [email protected] for next steps! *** • All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots. • We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting. • You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF. • We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs. • Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences. • We do request vet and personal references. • We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
