My Story

Introducing Phil, the terrier mix whose heart is as big as his head! Born in May 2021, this handsome fellow tips the scales at a solid 59 lbs. Phil’s journey to our shelter began when his previous owner, wanting only the best for him, entrusted us to find Phil the perfect forever home. Phil’s smile is a terrier trademark, capable of thawing even the frostiest of hearts. His love for people knows no bounds; every passerby is a potential friend in Phil’s eyes. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share in life’s adventures, Phil is your guy. His energy seems limitless, and he thrives in the company of those who lead an active lifestyle. Daily walks are among Phil’s favorite activities, and he’s no stranger to the local park, where he can stretch his legs and bask in nature’s beauty. He’s an ideal candidate for an adventure buddy, always up for hiking, camping, or exploring new trails. Phil’s zest for life makes him the perfect festival-goer or outdoor enthusiast’s partner. At the shelter, Phil is the epitome of tidiness, maintaining a spotless kennel. He’s also crate-trained, making the transition to house training in a new home a breeze. Treats are the way to Phil’s heart, and he’s already mastered “sit.” With a little patience and his favorite snacks, learning additional commands should be a walk in the park. When it comes to canine companions, Phil is sociable and playful, having aced his interactions with other dogs at the shelter. Phil was having some pretty bad anxiety here at the shelter. It just became a little too much for him here. We knew that we needed to get him in to a home environment as soon as possible. Luckily, one of our awesome foster's was happy to take our sweet boy to her home. Phil will be staying in her home until he finds his furever family. His foster mom says that Phil is just perfect with her dogs. She also has cats in her home that he was recently introduced to, and he did great. He was interested in the cats at first, but with a little redirection he lost interest fairly quickly. Slow introductions will be key to introducing him to any in the future. Phil is working on manners with his foster mom. She says his main goal in life is to be a lap dog, and he is very determined. As soon as she sits down on the couch Phil is right there reminding her that he wants ALL the pets and love he can get. He is a hefty 60lbs and can sometimes be stubborn and puts on the dead weight when she tries to get him off her lap. But he is making progress, with patience, time and treats he will learn soon enough what "off" means. When it comes to going to a home with kids, Phil's foster mom thinks he would do best in a home with kids who are older than 10, and kids that may have previous experience in having a bigger dog who is very exuberant and super playful. Phil is just a puppy in a big boy body who can't wait to go to his forever home. He is ready to fill your life with joy, laughter, and boundless love.
