My Story

This is Phil, he is 4 yrs old and build like a little tank, he is 50 lbs but doesn't look it since he is a compact package. He is super sweet and loves to be with his people, but we think he would do best in a living as an only dog. Poor Phil has had a rough year: his owner had to rehome him due to a change in living situation, then he got loose and they never bothered to come for him or even call about him. Apparently while he was at his new home his leg got stuck in a door ultimately causing a fracture and because it wasn't treated it started to heal misaligned. once he was at the shelter we noticed him limping and that's when we found out about the fracture. Because it had already started to heal we needed to continue with that process which meant keeping him contained with minimal exercise for a month. The good news is that it has healed and the vet feels it shouldn't cause too much of an issue for him, he can resume his normal activity but occasionally he may exhibit a limp if he over-exerts himself and will need some pain meds for a couple of days. While this little man is a great guy he does have some quirks we are working with ie, he is absolutely panicked having a bath even without a spray handle, he was equally as panicked getting on an exam table here but we have worked through that and he is better. He has never had a negative experience with bathing but it seems that having to do new things that he has never done freaks him out, so basically he has crappy coping skills. It could very well be that because he was a covid puppy he was not exposed to enough during critical periods. Luckily this guy lives for peanut butter so it has been easy to work with him acclimating to the exam table. He likes to go for walks but a 2 mile run is probably not a good idea on account of his leg.
