My Story

ADOPTION PENDING! Notes: This dog is a Hedgesville Hound. Notes: male - black lab (probably mixed) - neutered - 42 pounds - 6-8 months of age

Petey is a beautiful, glossy black lab mix. While 8 months of age is still very much a baby in Lab years, Petey has already learnt all the basics in doggy behaviour.

Petey is trusting, and filled with love. His eye contact is very direct. Even when he reckons that he may be in trouble, he gives full eye contact and really listens to understand his correction. Curious about everything, his ears prick with interest at every sound, and he watches attentively for any opportunity to please.

Other times he ís off in his own little world, playing contentedly and enjoying his own company - a real bonus.

Petey came into rescue as a stray, but thanks to excellent foster care, he is now extremely fit and solid. His coat is beautiful, and it drips dry in minutes, which is good, because Petey LOVES the water. He ís a very grateful dog but still a trifle impatient when it comes to food. This is a holdover from his time as a little abandoned guy, but he is working hard on his table manners, and now can sit and wait until his dinner bowl hits the ground.

Petey's favorite pastimes include ripping the squeakers out of his dog toys; playing in the water and running in the rain; dragging sticks from the backyard to his play area where he chews them into little pieces. He has great affection and admiration for the other 2 dogs in his foster home.

Petey loves attention and adores being cuddled and doted on. His favorite spot is the belly. Whenever he starts to get too rambunctious, a belly rub will put him straight into a trance.

His housesbreaking is impeccable, and Petey is already fluent in the commands "sit", "stay", "shake", "kiss", and "come". Occasionally he needs to take that youthful "extra moment" before he comes, but his intelligence is keen, and his joy in performing well is touchingly evident.

Petey loves belonging in a household, and he loves his routine. He looks forward to hearing the words "breakfast", "walk", "dinner", and "bedtime." Petey's happy day culminates in his most treasured time, when he bounds on his fosters' bed for hugs, a contented sigh, and sleep.

What Petey wants most in the world is to be part of a family - to eat, play, and have involvement in everything from mowing the lawn to doing the laundry. He is capable of independence, and finds himself excellent company. His fosters report that his high curiousity level still needs to be monitored when he has full run of the house.

Petey is a happy, gentle, affectionate dog, whose tail wags constantly, and whose big Lab face wears a perpetual smile. His life is a celebration of simple joys, from his $10 kiddie pool to the little extra biscuit he receives after each meal. His innocent delight in being loved has moved his foster family to want to spoil him. He will bring absolute devotion and a life-long bond to his adoptive human(s).
