Meet our sweet Petey! Hello, I'm Petey! I may be a senior, but don't let that fool you. I'm as spry and playful as any pup. I'm a mellow, gentle soul who loves a good cuddle. I'm friendly with everyone I meet, and my independent streak allows me to entertain myself when you're busy. I may not have any teeth, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying life to the fullest. Adopting me means adding a loving, loyal companion to your family. I promise to fill your days with joy and laughter. Petey is very loving, kind, sweet and just a soft soul! It is unknown if he had a good life once, but he definitely found himself in a position in which he needs a second chance at a happy ending. Petey needs a warm place to be, along with the love and comfort from a home to call his own. He is a precious, mature, happy dog who is still engaged in life! He wants to sit with you as long as you let him or lay on a big, comfy bed! By opening your home and heart to a mature dog, you will be repaid with love and joy over and over. He is 11 pounds of goodness! Petey was found roaming the streets by the United in Levelland, TX. After attempts to find his family and no identification, there has been no luck. When he arrived to us, we knew right away something was not right with his mouth. He was painful and struggled with his food. After his vet visit, Dr. Bailey at Animal Medical Center determined: -Heart worm and tick disease negative -Some anemia on bloodwork due to chronic disease of teeth and heart -Some heart disease which is also mildly affecting his kidneys -Teeth are most likely contributing to both (heart and kidneys) along with age He’s has a grade 4/6 heart murmur. Vetmedin has been started. Even though Petey was at possible anesthesia risk, we couldn’t do much to help him unless we addressed his poor mouth first. He didn’t have many teeth left to begin with and most looked infected on exam. Dr. Bailey said many dogs do perfectly fine without teeth and we opted to try. The teeth had to be removed. A dental was completed. Petey had 8 teeth left, all causing him discomfort. He loves chicken and any soft food. After his mouth healed, he often opts for dry food, too. All Petey wants is to be held and loved! He is the sweetest, most loving guy. Petey wants happiness. He is dog friendly. He deserves a second chance and that is our hope for him! We are one of 3 partner rescues with Project Freedom Ride and do monthly transports to the PNW and NE. All directly adopted dogs come vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, if 6 months or older require a negative heartworm test, and up to date on flea & tick preventative and heartworm preventative if applicable and a negative fecal.
